Enjoying the weather outside and cooking meat when the sun is out is an old British tradition. So why no renewing that old BBQ and enjoy outside with your friends and family of a lovely day. To help you with this idea, we have put together a practical guide with the help of some experts that will cover everything you need to know to make the perfect barbecue. 

To say the true, it is well known that sometimes barbecuers could have a terrible time, the issues could go from not cremating sausages to probably poisoning our friends, when at the end all they wanted was to kick back and have a beer.

Don’t worry, is not that difficult! but it is true that mastering some techniques will give you a special seat of honour among your friends and family.  This is the reason why we are sharing with you some tips to armed you to became the Master of the Flame on an already-hot day. 

  1. Get the perfect barbecue

There are two crucial things your burner needs to make great barbecue food. The first is to use a charcoal one to get some extra smoky flavour. The second point is to have a lid, it will lock the flavour, keep the temperature constant and you can use it as an extra technique, it will allow you to melt cheese on burgers or smoke ribs:)

  1. Wait for the right moment to cook

You need patience and concentration. You need to wait for the coals to be white hot, meaning grey and glowing. That’s the perfect point. 

  1. Get the perfect temperature 

We have the perfect tip for this! Hold your hand about 12cm/5inches above the grill and see how long you can hold it comfortably (no screaming).

6 seconds = low heat

4 seconds = medium heat

2 seconds = hotter than chilli pepper patch

  1. Get the perfect tools

Get yourself one kit you really must have and a decent pair of tongs, they will give you all the control you need and the chances of dropping anything between the grills will be reduce.

  1. You need to let the meat rest first

It is important that ones the meat comes off the grill, it needs to rest for at least 10 to 15 minutes and put it in foil, no wrapping it. If you let the steak rest, the juices will reabsorb into the meat and you will have a juicier, tender and flavoursome meat.

  1. Get the right sides

You need to think on a balanced meal. In order to do this, you could go for a potato salad, some corn on the grill, some couscous or a delicious flatbread.
